Bruxism is a condition in which you grind or clench your teeth. If you have bruxism, you may unconsciously clench your teeth when you are awake as well as asleep (sleep bruxism). In some cases, bruxism can lead to jaw disorders, headaches, damaged teeth and other problems.

Warning signs of bruxism can include teeth clenching or grinding, teeth that are flattened, fractured, chipped or loose, worn tooth enamel, tooth pain or sensitivity, tired jaw muscles, locked jaw, pain that feels like an earache, dull headache in the temples, injury on the inside of your cheek and/or sleeps disruption.

At A Better Smile In-House Laboratory, we custom make a selection of protective mouthguards to protect your teeth from grinding while you sleep.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA): is a serious and lifelong medical condition affecting almost a million Australians. It can affect your sleep, health and quality of life. It has been linked to hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, work and driving-related accidents and stroke.

Bruxism: If you are grinding and clenching your teeth while sleeping, or during the daytime too, you might be suffering from Bruxism.

If left untreated, your teeth can cause serious long-term damage, as well as suffering from loose teeth and gum recession. It may also lead to more serious problems such as migraine and problems with your jaw (TMJ).

Overnight Sleep Study Polysomnogram (PSG): A PSG is a test conducted in a sleep laboratory or hospital setting where the patient has to stay overnight.

Home Sleep Test (HST, also called an Out of Centre Sleep Test (OCST): This test is performed using a device that the patient wears in the comfort of their own home. The patient is given instructions on how to use the device and will return it to the dispensing office for the report to be evaluated by Somnolent®

During the first visit, our dentist will assess your issue by asking you a series of questions to determine which type of test is appropriate for your case.

After receiving the test results, your dentist will diagnose your problem and evaluate if SomnoDent® is the right treatment for you. In case of SomnoDent® is a treatment option for you, an impression of your bite will be taken and your custom devices will be ordered to be made.

It may take a few weeks for your SomnoDent® device will be ready for you to wear at night. Finally, follow up appointments will be scheduled to verify the treatment is working as expected.
