7 things you should know about veneers

If you’ve ever wanted a celebrity-style smile, you might have considered getting veneers. Veneers are thin porcelain shells which are permanently cemented to a tooth (or teeth) to hide discolouration, shape or colour. They can look amazing, but they are permanent and can be costly so here’s what you should know first.

1. Do your research on your cosmetic dentist first

Because this dental procedure can be a little expensive, make sure you go to a renowned cosmetic dentist in Sydney. You don’t want to choose someone that’s right out of dental school, and then again, you don’t want an old fossil of a dentist with shaky hands. Choosing a cosmetic dentist is like choosing a make-up artist, just because they know how to carry out the procedure, doesn’t mean they’re good at it. At A Better Smile Dental Centre, Dr Joel Kligman has hundreds of satisfied clients who all sport winning smiles thanks to veneers. When you book a consultation, ask to see before and after photos or testimonials for former patients—the proof is in the pudding, so to speak.

2. A good cosmetic dentist will book you in for a smile consultation before work begins

You won’t simply turn up to the dental centre sit in the chair and emerge with a new set of pearly whites. Veneers are a customised solution. We take into account the state of your oral health, the look you want to achieve, the tone of your skin, the gum line, the shape of your smile, your personality—all these things are considered before designing a smile individualised for you. Don’t expect to show us an image of your favourite celebrity and leave a few hours later with a replica of their smile because you’ll be disappointed.

3. You may not need a whole mouth of veneers

Once Dr Joel Kligman has all the scans, digital imaging, moulds and X-rays required, the next part of the process is to decide how many veneers are required. You may only need the four teeth at the front covered or maybe just one or two discoloured teeth. Leave it to our dental team to make the recommendations. Knowing veneers can be expensive you may already be prepared to pay anything for the perfect smile, however, it may cheaper than you imagine.

4. The full cost of veneers doesn’t have to be paid straight away

At a Better Smile Dental Centre, we take an initial deposit for your treatment but the rest, how much you pay and how long you have to pay it off, is up to you. We offer interest-free, flexible finance payment options. No credit checks, no complicated paperwork and you choose the amount of time to finish paying your bill—6, or 12 months.

5. Veneers are permanent, but they will need replacing eventually

The better you look after your veneers with regular dental check-ups, brushing and flossing, the longer they will last. You can expect to get a minimum of 10-15 years, maybe even 30 if you religiously look after your oral health, but like most cosmetic procedures, they’re not designed to last forever.

6. You may wish to consider asking for Lumineers

Dental Lumineers are the number 1 requested veneer system in the world. They are ultra-thin porcelain veneers, placed over the natural teeth. Unlike traditional veneers, Lumineers do not require any removal of tooth structure.

7. Not everyone is a good candidate for veneers

Porcelain veneers are suitable for most dental patients. However, a few exceptions may apply depending on each individual case. Veneers cannot be placed over unhealthy enamel or teeth will multiple issues, including severe decay, cracked teeth or gum disease. If your teeth are severely misaligned, you clench or grind your teeth, then Dr Kligman may suggest other forms of cosmetic dentistry to correct your smile.
